Strongest Wind Breaker Characters In The Manga

Reichen Bank-Kunden Droht Jetzt Heftiges BUßGeld Möglicher EA Sports FC 26 Delase -Datum online durchgesickert

Given its successful anime adaptation, the Wind Breaker series has garnered attention for all the right reasons. Feeling like a throwback to delinquent stories from yesteryear, the show takes place in a city that seems to be run by high school gangs, with most members being tied to schools. Haruka Sakura, the protagonist, is an outcast who relies on fighting to get by in life, and he joins Furin due to its reputation for being the school with the strongest students. While he goes in expecting to fight his way to the top, Haruka soon realizes that Furin’s gang, Bofurin, is a tight-knit family who spend their days protecting their city.

18 Best Action Anime Like Wind Breaker

For fans of the brand-new action anime Wind Breaker who can’t wait for the next episode to drop, these other action anime can fill the void.

Wind Breaker follows Haruka’s journey to redefine what it means to be the strongest, a position that requires way more than just being able to deliver and take a punch. Rather than relying on supernatural abilities, the manga and anime’s action sequences rely exclusively on hand-to-hand combat and martial arts, with most of the main characters having unique fighting styles that set them apart from the crowd. While focusing quite a bit on Haruka’s emotional growth, exciting battles are still a major selling point of this story. Consequently, let’s highlight the strongest Wind Breaker characters.

Spoiler Warning: Please note that this article covers characters who have yet to debut in the anime.

Updated on June 12, 2025, by Mark Sammut: As season 2 is nearly over, this article has been updated to cover a few more of the most powerful Wind Breaker characters. While one new arrival (Kanji) has been introduced in the anime, the other newcomers are either manga-exclusives or have barely done anything in the adaptation.

Suo Hayato

Vice Captain of the Vaisravana Unit

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 03
  • Anime Debut: Episode 2
  • School: Furin

Considered to be one of the strongest among the first-years, Hayato Suo is a central supporting character of the series and a member of the Vaisravana unit of Bofurin. Suo is usually eerily calm and collected, even in extreme situations, making his judgment almost cold-blooded. He can make level-headed decisions without hinting at emotions.

Regarding fighting ability, Suo’s potential is arguably the highest among the first-years, and he is currently immensely strong due to his mastery of mixed martial arts, akin to some form of Aikido. However, what makes Suo even more dangerous is his ability to induce fear into his opponent through his calm demeanor during combat, as seen against Minoru of Shishitoren. Like Togame, Suo is also somewhat unpredictable, making it difficult for his opponent to read his actions.

Kanji Nakamura

Leader Of Roppo-Ichiza

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 69
  • Anime Debut: Episode 20
  • Occupation: Bodyguard (Show Pub Ougi)

Introduced during the Roppo-Ichiza / Gravel Arc, Kanji works at Show Pub Ougi, serving as a bouncer and bodyguard. Roppo-Ichiza’s members are somewhat older than most Wind Breaker characters, although the group’s strength is undermined by its relatively small size, which limits how far they can go as a unit. That said, their main goal is to try and maintain peace in the red-light district, so their reach is more contained than the gangs.

8 Best Fights in Wind Breaker. Ranked (So Far)

Whether it’s a brutal showdown between rival gangs or a clash of ideologies between fighters, the series delivers some of the most intense scenes.

Kanji is presented as Roppo-Ichiza’s strongest member, and he tends to lead by example. As the chairman, Kanji’s act-first, think-later attitude rubs off on the rest of the crew, although his heart is generally in the right place. He has history with both Bofurin’s Tsubaki and Gravel’s Shuhei, and his strength is roughly in the same ballpark as those two. However, Kanji rarely gets to showcase his abilities in the manga, so he cannot quite rank as high as either of those characters.

13

Ren Kaji

Second-Year Captain Of The Vaisravana Unit

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 34 (Proper Debut)
  • Anime Debut: Episode 11
  • School: Furin

Ren Kaji’s strength can be a touch unpredictable, as his performance varies quite a bit depending on his temper. When he is mostly normal, he is a capable combatant who can be quite vicious, although he is a few levels below the absolute strongest Wind Breaker fighters.

However, when Kaji loses his cool and enters berserk mode, he can be a treat for most people. Unfortunately, he gets somewhat lost in the shuffle after the KEEL arc and does not quite measure up against later characters, particularly during the Noroshi arc.

12

Shuhei Suzuri

Founder Of Gravel

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 73
  • Anime Debut: Episode 21
  • School: Gravel

The ex-leader and founder of Gravel, Shuhei Suzuri, is a relatively nonchalant and aloof person whose primary motivation is money. Having come from a community where the economy was more or less at its lowest and had no dependable structure, Suzuri created Gravel as a band of delinquents/mercenaries who would take on odd requests like kidnapping for money.

The tremendous trials these anime characters went through largely contributed to their development.

As Gravel’s former head, Shuhei’s skill is nothing to scoff at, given his equal standing with Tsubakino during their fight. This makes him an above-average fighter in comparison to others, given that Tsubakino is one of the stronger of the Four Heavenly Kings. Due to his extremely pessimistic attitude, Shuhei only focuses on his motivation and objectives during fights, which sometimes affects his judgments, as seen with Tsubakino.

Takumi Momose & Saku Mizuki

Two Of Bofurin’s Four Kings

wind breaker four kings momose and mizuki

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 38
  • Anime Debut: Yet To Happen
  • School: Furin

Bofurin’s Four Kings are all capable fighters in their own right, but they have not all been showcased to the same degree. Although Momose and Mizuki spend some time in the spotlight during the Noroshi War Arc, that saga has such a massive cast that they are somewhat lost in the shuffle.

Still, they are head-and-shoulders above any other character besides the strongest ones, and Mizuki also proves himself to be a fairly important tactician as well. Unfortunately, Momose and Mizuki have gotten very few moments to shine.

10

Shuji Hashirao

Noroshi Member

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 103
  • Anime Debut: Yet To Happen
  • School: Noroshi

Honestly, all of Noroshi’s named secondary characters are strong, even if they fail to compare to their leaders. While Seitaro and Genji manage to take out Momose and Mizuki with a lot of help, Shuji presents a far more impressive and elongated demonstration of his abilities, as he holds his own in a 2v1 fight against Sakura and Kyotaro.

Although this fight happens before the former’s strength skyrockets, Shuji is still an absolute beast who can tank hits convincingly while also putting a lot of power behind his punches. He also knows how to get under people’s skins, and he seems to enjoy a good fight.

9

Tasuku Tsubakino

Jikoku Team Leader

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 37
  • Anime Debut: Episode 12
  • School: Furin

One of the Four Heavenly Kings and guardian of the East, Tsubakino is a rather outspoken and confident person. While Furin High School is a school for boys, Tsubakino takes on a very feminine trait that shows through how they dress, speak, and ask to be addressed.

More or less, the figure of love and affection within Bofurin, Tsubakino, is very empathetic towards others and is quick to dote on anyone who piques their interest. However, in terms of ability, Tsubakino’s position within Bofurin is an accurate allusion to their overall ability in combat. Referred to as one of the strongest of the Heavenly Kings, Tsubakino is more than capable of fighting, as shown during their fight against Shuhei Suzuri of Gravel, whom they ultimately defeated.

8

Kanon Banjo

Third-Strongest Member Of Noroshi

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 104
  • Anime Debut: Yet to Happen
  • School: Noroshi

Like so many of Noroshi’s top brass, Kanon Banjo used to be part of Bofurin, only to leave when the organization shifted away from fighting for fighting’s sake. While not quite as strong as Endo or Takiishi, Banjo is an extremely dangerous threat to pretty much all opponents, and he absolutely demolishes Kaji during their fight.

Banjo loves pain. He loves to experience and also dish it out, and his brutality can be uncomfortable to behold. Banjo’s actions against Kaji drive Hiragi to his breaking point, causing the usually calm and collected Bofurin member to erupt in rage.

7

Jo Togame

Shishitoren Second-in-Command

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 06
  • Anime Debut: Episode 3
  • School: Shishitoren

The Vice Leader of Shishitoren, Jo Togame, is second only in authority to Choji Tomiyama and quite the force to be reckoned with. Ruthless and arrogant, Togame has the skills to back up his arrogance to great effect. Blessed with physical strength surpassing his peers, Togame is a fearsomely unpredictable opponent, as shown by his battle with Sakura.

Given his size, he is also extremely agile, displaying extraordinary reactive power, which lets him adjust to his opponent’s speed relatively easily. Togame appears calm and laid-back; however, beneath his calm facade is a ruthlessly cruel individual whose answer to most situations is power. However, Togame’s most outstanding quality is his ‘limitless stamina,’ enabling him to keep fighting for extended periods without rest, further alluding to his physical capabilities.

6

Toma Hiragi

Tamon Team Leader

  • Manga Debut: Chapter 01
  • Anime Debut: Episode 1
  • School: Furin

A third-year student at Furin High School, Toma Hiragi is one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Bofurin. Also, the commander of the Vaisravana unit, Hiragi, is the closest advisor to Umemiya because he is always tasked with informing him of any situation. Due to the sheer number of conflicts the gang engages in, Hiragi always seems stressed because he is always among those on the frontlines of such conflicts.

Hiragi possesses incredible physical strength, as he is shown to be able to bend a metal bat easily with his bare hand. While strong, Hiragi is also impressively durable for a teenager, withstanding a hit from a meta bat while protecting Sakura and Kotoha. Above all, Hiragi’s close combat abilities are not slacking either, making him a rather brutal character.
